Nobody Is Paying More to The European Union Than The Flemings
22.01.2010 - The Vlaams Belang delegation in the European Parliament has carried out new research with regard to the 2008 budget of the European Union (EU).
It is already known for years that Belgium is paying an enormous amount of money to the EU. In fact only the Dutch are paying more to the EU per head of the population. For the first time Vlaams Belang has examined how much is paid by respectively Flanders and the Walloon provinces in Belgium. The results are revealing.
The share of Flanders in the Belgian financial contribution to the EU is 65,3 per cent while the Walloon share is only 34,7 per cent. On the other hand, Flanders receives only 54,8 per cent of the European expenditures in Belgium while the Walloon provinces collect 45,2 per cent. In both ways, the Flemings are seriously put at a disadvantage.
In 2008 Flanders paid the enormous amount of 1802,2 million Euro, or 72,6 billion old Belgian francs, to the EU. This comes down to at least 286 Euro nett per Fleming.
So each year an average family of 4 persons pays roughly 1144 Euro. The Flemings are paying 205730 Euro an hour, 24 hours a day, day after day.
In 2008 nobody of the almost 500 million Europeans paid more than a Fleming.
Let us take a look at the top 10:
- Flanders 286 Euro net per Fleming
- The Netherlands 273,4 Euro net per head of the population
- Sweden 193,7 Euro net per head of the population
- Denmark 143,8 Euro net per head of the population
- Walloon provinces 143,2 Euro net per head of the population
- Germany 136,1 Euro net per head of the population
- Italy 85,4 Euro net per head of the population
- Finland 77,3 Euro net per head of the population
- France 72 Euro net per head of the population
- Cyprus 71,2 Euro net per head of the population
A Fleming is paying more than a Dutchman, twice as much than a Walloon, more than twice as much than a German, three times as much than an Italian, four times as much than a Frenchman and five times as much than a Briton.
By way of this research the MEPs of Vlaams Belang, Frank Vanhecke and Philip Claeys, are the only ones in Flanders who dare to break the taboo of the cost of the EU. Vlaams Belang wants Belgium to negotiate a political cut for Flanders just like the representatives of Great Britain, the Netherlands and Sweden did for their country.
